Field Paleontology - 2nd through 6th
We will find amber and plant fossils, while examining the geologic forces which shaped our region. Kids learn the real science concepts behind Jurassic Park, with
an appreciation for the rarity of the amber they collect. There are only five places in the U.S. where amber can be readily collected; we are fortunate to have one in our "backyard".
Access requires a two mile hike, round trip, with little elevation change.

Glowing Rocks - 3rd through 6th
Collect minerals which glow in the dark! Can be offered as an evening or daytime trip. Students learn about quantum physics and the science of fluorescence, before
collecting abundant specimens of calcite and opal. An easy 100 yard hike brings you to a hillside speckled with fluorescent minerals.
On daytime trips we explain fluorescence using edible crystal models, then collect specimens using blackout boxes to observe fluorescence.
