Mineralogy - 3rd through 6th

Students learn the physical properties of minerals, then work in groups to identify specimens. A highly motivational class, as kids keep all the minerals they can identify at the end of the lesson! Minerals are the building blocks of the earth, and our society depends upon them for fuel, housing, transportation, and technology. Learn how geologists find minerals, and see lots of beautiful specimens! One hour.

Price:

  • $110 per class, minimum 2 classes
  • Maximum 30 students.

Paleontology - K through 6th

We explore the concept of geologic time, and learn how fossils form. Many real fossils are provided, for hands on experience. Kids experience identifying fossils, including individual and classroom project specimens they can keep for further study. Content varies with grade level. 50 minutes to one hour.

Price:

  • $90 per class, minimum 2 classes
  • Maximum 30 students.

Glaciers and Ice Cream - 3rd through 6th

Build working models of alpine and valley glaciers with ice cream, pudding, butterscotch chips, and other geologic goodies. After we learn glacial terminology, how glaciers move, and how they shaped our region, we have to do something with the ice cream. Kids really devour this lesson! You provide 2 gallons of ice cream, any flavor(s). Classroom must have a sink. This class makes an excellent educational party, teacher workshop, fund raiser, or festival event. 1.5 hours.

Price:

  • $130 per class, minimum 2 classes
  • Maximum 36 students.
  • As a fund raiser or festival event, we can serve 100 to 300 participants/hour @ $3.25/person. We provide ice cream for fundraisers. Minimum 100 people.
DISCOUNT: 3 or more minerology or paleontology classes held on same day at same location:
  • $100/class
  • Glaciers: $110/class.

Science Fairs:

We've been presenters at school events for 20 years, and will bring our exciting programs to your fair, Science Day, or fundraiser. References available. $95/hour.  Minimum, 3 hours.

Mineralogy:

Kids quickly learn the physical properties of minerals, identifying specimens they can take home. Serves 8 - 10 people at a time, on ten minute intervals.  Requires an area where we can limit influx of participants.  We can provide a booth structure on request.

Glaciers & Ice Cream:

Participants, both child & adult, learn how glaciers work by building ice cream models. Serves up to 40 people per session, in 25 minute intervals. Requires a separate space with tables and chairs. School provides ice cream, at one gallon per 12 participants. We provide other edible geologic goodies, tools, and instructor. We often can arrange donation of ice cream by local businesses.
